Beginnings

A photography friend of mine told me once that this image is like the beginning of a story. He referenced an old monochrome movie whose opening scene was that of a lone flower on a small table  in a monochrome room that slowly started to turn yellow as the filmaker zoomed in.
This is the first photo I ever successfully used off camera flash in, and also one that brought me success in winning one of the weekly prizes Studio 414 would have every so often.
It is still one of my favourites. 2 flash guns were used, one at the bottom to help light behind the chair, and one above me to help light some of the staircase. The chair was front lit by a slightly opaque window. An old stairwell in the old Kamloops B.C. courthouse turned museum. I actully saw and planned this photo several years prior while setting up for an event, and always wanted to come back to it.
